The Influence of the ‘I Position’: A Fresh Take on Teacher-Student Dynamics

📅 Date: Wednesday August 6
⏰ Time: 4 pm Australian ESDT
💻 Location: Online via Zoho Webinars

When classroom defiance arises, it’s easy to get caught in power struggles. This webinar introduces the “I Position”, a concept drawn from our Confident Teacher and Parent Courses and rooted in Bowen theory‘s concept of differentiation.

Often used in parenting, the “I Position” is equally relevant for educators. It offers a new way of relating to students—one that reduces pressure and invites calm authority. Rather than offering a quick fix, this shift in stance helps lay the foundation for a more connected, respectful classroom culture over time.

Designed with teachers and school leaders in mind, this session may also be of interest to mental health professionals working within school systems.

As Jenny Brown writes in Growing Yourself Up

“There is no magic in using the words of the ‘I’ position. The impact is not so much in the language but in the [teacher’s] inner conviction and perseverance… The child senses the difference… and, after testing, begins to manage themselves better.”

Join us to explore how this quiet shift in stance can support long-term change.
